AN Accrington man has pleaded for witnesses to come forward after he suffered a broken cheekbone and eye socket in what he claims was an attack at a pub.

Kevin King, 47, was left with a bloodied face after the alleged attack at the Walmsley Arms in Great Harwood.

The heavy goods vehicle driver now faces the prospect of missing out on a new job because of the injuries.

Mr King was drinking at the Queen Street venue with his wife Tracy and a friend when, he claims, he was assaulted in the beer garden.

He said: “We had gone up to Great Harwood for a drink with my wife’s friends and we were initially in Snuffy’s, and there were no problems there.

“I do not even know what happened when we got to the Walmsley Arms. I do not remember being put in the ambulance or anything. The next thing I know is that I woke up in Royal Blackburn Hospital.

“There were no arguments or anything like that and it was not as if I was drunk enough for it to be self-inflicted.”

Police confirmed they are investigating. The alleged incident took place between 1.30am and 2.30am on April 17.

DC Tony Roberts said: “The beer garden and the pub were quite busy at the time so we think a lot of people might have seen what went on.

“We are appealing for anyone who saw the alleged incident to call police on 101, quoting log number LC20150417_0131.”

Mr King has found out that he has landed a new driving job, through a recruitment agency.

But he is unable to fulfil the role as he awaits news of potential surgery on his injuries.

He said: “I am a wagon driver and I recently left my previous job so I was chuffed to get a new one through the agency.

“Now I have to go back to hospital to see what they are going to do about the cheekbone. My right eye has healed fairly quickly but it is still not safe to be driving for a living.

“The police are speaking to the pub about CCTV — and hopefully someone who saw what happened will come forward.”

No-one has been arrested in connection with the alleged assault.
