A COVERT operation to check on under-age booze sales caught three pubs selling alcohol to under-18s.
Details of the successful; ‘sting’ are revealed in a report by borough environment boss Jim Smith to Blackburn with Darwen’s full Council Forum tonight.

It says: “A joint police/council alcohol test-purchasing operation was carried out in February.
“The test purchasing operation retuned underage three sales from a total of eight on-licensed premises visited.
“The Police took the lead in dealing with two of the sales, offering the employees who sold (who were first time sellers, and had previously received training from the pub owners), places on Responsible Alcohol retailing Courses as an alternative to fixed penalty notices.”
