JUMBLES Sailing Club welcomed aboard new members at its annual open day.

In conjunction with the Royal Yachting Association's (RYA), the club staged a Push the Boat Out Day in which people were invited to enjoy a free sail, which took in the picturesque surroundings of Jumbles Country Park.

This year, the club's access boat, suitable for people with disabilities, was on show.

The club has accreditation with the RYA under their scheme to assist disabled people with sailing.

Commodore Brian Hoy said: "It was a successful day, we signed up seven new families with the possibility of a few more signing up.

"They had a chance to see the club's facilities and find out about the different sailing boats available.

"Our boat for people with disabilities was available on the day."

He added: "We wanted to show that sailing is not as expensive as people may think and it is a good all round family support.

"The club is unique in the fact that encourages families to sail socially, we do have a team which races, but through social sailing the families can enjoy the location."

Mr Hoy started sailing 15 years ago to try something different and now he charters yachts and enjoys life on the ocean wave, having visiting places like Croatia and Greece.

He said: "I had never sailed before, I wanted to try something different.

"It is the feeling of doing something which you have to think about but relaxing and enjoying it at the same time."

Mr Hoy added: "We hold an annual open day, we are always there on a Sunday and will receive people who want to look around and are interested in sailing."
