A DEAL has been struck which will allow the party to get started at a popular rural Burnley beer festival — despite neighbours complaining about the noise.

An annual gathering, accompanied by live music, has taken place at Nino’s, at the Fightings Cocks in Cliviger, since Ignazio Pilliterri took over in late 2011.

But question marks had been raised by the borough council’s environmental-health department over a planned repeat performance on May 1 and 2, as there had been complaints, from nearby householders, about a noise nuisance.

Further talks between the licensing and environmental-health units have resolved the issue and prevented a scheduled licensing hearing into Nino’s temporary event notice for the festival.

Carmelo Pilliterri, the venue’s manager, said: “We should have everything in place now to enable us to go ahead.

“There is a point of contact and we will be conducting decibel readings on the day.

“We will have around 25 beers, lagers and ciders, from a range of local breweries, and are planning to serve pizzas and pulled pork sandwiches.”

Live music scheduled for the festival will come from groups including Bare Wires, Mighty Revelators, Ben Smith Duo and The Boozy Woozy Band.

A Burnley Council spokesman confirmed that a licensing hearing, originally slated to take place at the town hall on April 1, was not deemed necessary after further discussions were held between the authority and the applicants.

He said: “The event will be going ahead after it was agreed that a number of measures would be put in place to address concerns, particularly in relation to the sound system for the festival.

“The applicant is going to monitor sound levels throughout the weekend.

“A contact number will be provided with a named person, so residents can raise objections, and nearby addresses will be contacted and made aware of these provisions.”

Admission to the festival will be £3 per person per day, with a token-sheet system in operation for the beers.

Nino’s, founded in 1986, has gone from strength to strength since the opening of the original restaurant in Rawtenstall.
