THE public are being invited to have their say about what should happen in a town centre.

A major consultation at the end of private meetings is to be held in Todmorden Town Hall and one of the organisers, Dr Lindsay Smales, said there was an important input to be made before Bramsche Square Transformational Project was finally settled.

He told the town council's development committee that they and Todmorden Pride members had an important role to play because of their local knowledge and knowing how much could be achieved in certain areas.

But Coun Frank McManus said he was very concerned that people based in Leeds on Yorkshire Forward as part of the Upper Calder Valley Renaissance project suddenly saw themselves as experts for what towns like Todmorden needed.

Dr Smales said he shared Coun McManus's view that a useful purpose could be made from the former health centre building and the possibility of using it as a centre for local history could be investigated.

Todmorden Town Hall has been booked for Saturday, April 21, with the doors opening at 10am when the public can see what is planned for the square after the Focus group representing local businesses, councils and other interested bodies prepare their presentation.
