SOLDIERS from the 2nd Battalion of the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, have taken part in a dawn raid to arrest members of rogue militia in Iraq.

In the early hours of Friday, around 450 British and Danish troops took part in a search and arrest operation in Al Qurnah, 70km north of Basra.

The operation was based on information gained that suggested that a number senior figures and members of a rogue militia involved in attacks against coalition troops could be found in that location.

The operation was successful and a number of suspected rogue militants were arrested, including one suspected of being involved in coordinating attacks across Iraq.

At least one member of the rogue militia was killed after opening fire on the coalition troops and two British soldiers were injured, one seriously and his injuries are being treated at a coalition hospital.

The other soldier has, following hospital treatment, returned to his unit.

The regiment was formed from the former Queen's Lancashire Regiment.
