A MAN who carried out a "revenge" fire attack at Clayton-le-Moors has been jailed for at least three years.

James Woods admitted he caused a bedroom blaze which resulted in significant damage and burned through to the kitchen ceiling below.

Woods, 25, of Forshaw Road, Cambridge, pleaded guilty to arson, being reckless whether life would be endangered.

Francis McEntee, prosecuting at Preston Crown Court, said that by the defendant's own account, the offence was retribution for a slight he felt for his brother.

One night in July last year the two brothers went to the home of former friend, in Arthur Street. They arrived at the address about 4am.

A number of people were there, drinking outside.

It seemed that Woods's brother wanted cannabis so he was taken to buy some. But money was taken from him.

The fire was started after he told his brother what had happened.

Mr Hilton thought it was a joke when Woods told him "I have just set fire to the house".

Imposing an indeterminate term for public protection, Judge Pamela Badley directed that Woods serve a minimum of three years before he can be considered for possible parole.

She accepted that he had been described as a model worker, diligent and totally trustworthy.

But she also told Woods: "At the time you wanted to strike out at someone with whom you had a grievance. The fact that this was a revenge attack is an aggravating feature."
