GEORGIOS SAMARAS claims he could score a hat-trick against Hearts on Sunday to finish top scorer for Celtic this season - and still not be happy.

The Greek striker also reckons he would be doing cartwheels if keeper Artur Boruc wandered upfield and sclaffed a shot into the net.

All that matters to Sami is that someone scores in the final game of the season, and that this is the goal which clinches the title for the defending champions.

The chance to be a hero does not interest him - but being a winner certainly does.

And while his view that Rangers would not be worthy champions because he believes Celtic are the better team and play the better football has added fuel to what already promises to be an explosive weekend, the hitman can't be faulted for his honesty.

Hoops boss Gordon Strachan will be hoping Sami is as deadly shooting with his feet as he has been with his mouth.

With 17 goals this season, the 24-year-old is just two behind to scorer Scott McDonald.

But he could not care less about any personal glory and said: "If I score a hat-trick to win the game and we lose the title, then I won't be happy.

"If Artur Boruc comes up and scores a goal to win it, it will be brilliant. It's a team sport. We're a group, and everyone wants what is good for the club. And what is good for the club is to win the title, not score a goal.

"But I'm looking forward to the game. I'm ready for this and I'm loving these big games."

Samaras is sure that feeling is universal around the dressing room, overwhelming any nerves which might be in danger of surfacing ahead of shoot-out Sunday.

He is focused only on helping Celtic take three points, after which he will find out if this has been enough to give him his second championship medal.

This will be determined by events at Tannadice, but Sami said: "I really don't care what Rangers do.

"I'm only thinking about our game, trying to play good football and getting the three points. We'll see in the end if we are going to win the title or not."

Not that Sami is any doubt who should be crowned champions - and they don't wear blue shirts.

Since first arriving here on loan from Manchester City 17 months ago, he has never made any attempt to hide the fact he is not a fan of Rangers' style.

"I think we are a team that likes to play football. As a football team, we're better than Rangers," he explained. "Rangers have something we don't have; they play the long balls and just fight.

"We're two totally different teams. We pass the ball more than Rangers and they play another style of football.

"I like to play football and to pass the ball. This is the reason it's called football. This is how the gaffer wants us to play.

"We've won the title for the past three years with this type of football."

Samaras accepts that, having been seven points clear twice this season, Rangers - who he concedes have good players - have done well to get their noses in front going into the final game.

But he puts this down, largely, to Celtic making mistakes in games, particularly around the turn of the year.

Now it goes down to the final 90 minutes, and he said: "We'll see who is going to have more heart to win the title."

By 3pm on Sunday, whether or not that is enough will be known. No matter which team lifts the trophy, Samaras is in no doubt who should be crowned the SPL's best.

"Like last year, they were seven points clear and we won the title and I said we were the better team," he said, "Now it's the opposite. But if they're going to win it, I don't think they deserve it. We are a better team than them. If they are going to win it, then fair play, but it's our mistakes that let them."
