MORE than half of over-50s think it will be more difficult for their children to build up a pension, a report out today claims.

Research from Scottish Widows indicated that babyboomers believe themselves to be the lucky generation in terms of accruing retirement savings.

Just under 60% of the group said their offspring will find it tougher to set aside cash for old age and more than 50% believe it was more difficult for their parents to save into a pension.

Half of all 20 and 30-somethings quizzed agreed with their parents' views on this.

A poll of 2000 UK adults found that just under 40% of parents had given or loaned their adult children a substantial amount of money.

Anne Young, savings expert at Scottish Widows, said: "The over-50s seem to have a more positive view of their retirement compared to the generation above and below them.

"However, the situation isn't necessarily as gloomy for those under 30.

"It seems their parents are recognising that their children's future isn't as rosy and so they are giving them a financial helping hand."
