By CATRIONA STEWART WEDDING planner Elaine Hamilton thought she'd dealt with every situation - until one special guest announced she was just days from giving birth and was travelling from Spain for the ceremony in Scotland.

Hattie Sutton and Sophia Jamsheer have been best pals since primary school, so when Sophia announced she was getting married Hattie had to be there.

But Hattie, 32, not only lives 1200 miles away in Spain - she was also 38 weeks' pregnant.

Events organiser Elaine, from Bearsden, received a call just days before the wedding from the panicked mum-to-be who announced the baby's head had engaged, making it likely the little one would arrive even sooner than expected.

Used to organising weddings for everyone from close friends to football stars, the 37-year-old leapt into action to ensure nothing could go wrong for the bride's special guest at the wedding in Dundas Castle, near Edinburgh.

"I have a 16-week-old baby and I knew how Hattie must have been feeling, so I had everything covered, just in case," she said.

"We had a comfy chair placed in every room, for Hattie to rest. Her bedroom had a special walk-in bath in case she got stuck climbing in a normal bath.

"I also had to source the closest maternity hospital and have two taxi firms, both with sat nav, on standby with the quickest routes planned out. Luckily everything went to plan for a perfect day."

Unable to fly due to her advanced pregnancy, loyal Hattie took trains from Madrid to Paris then travelled by Eurostar to London, and finally by train to Scotland.

Hattie had been asked to be Sophia's bridesmaid but the wedding last Wednesday was too near her due date and she was worried she'd let Sophia down.

Sophia, 32, said: "Hattie and I have been best friends since we were seven - I couldn't have imagined my wedding day without her there.

"I wanted her to be bridesmaid but she got too big for her dress.

"If the baby had come on my special day that would have been amazing. I wasn't worried about it - there would have been something wonderfully romantic about Hattie giving birth to a little Scottish baby on my wedding day."

Hattie is now in London still waiting for the baby to be born - and has asked the happy couple to be godparents.

Sophia added: "Alan and I are just thrilled and can't wait for the new baby to come. What a lovely start to our married life."

Mum-of-one Elaine runs a Glasgow-based lifestyle company, Extra Time Management, which helps new Celtic stars settle into Glasgow by arranging housing, cars and moving home.

She is helping to organise Celtic star Mark Wilson's wedding - which has been put back until after pregnant fiancee Kelly Hannoway gives birth.

lElaine is among 290 wedding firms exhibiting at the Scottish Wedding Show at the SECC on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 6pm.
