THERE'S always one team that sinks like a stone through a division and I'm just hoping that it isn't us.

The bottom line is that we desperately need a win against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday because, without being too panicky, we are now looking over our shoulders after the 3-1 defeat at QPR.

I'm not going to mention the word relegation' - although I know I just have!

But if we lose on Saturday then we could be in serious trouble and facing a long two or three months ahead. It really is that massive a game.

We haven't won since beating Leeds on November 28 - that seems such a long time ago.

As we've seen ourselves, all good runs come to an end and bad ones do too. It can all change in a week.

We've just got to go back to basics and play as a team.

When we drew 0-0 at Southampton, I honestly believed that would be our turning point.

It was a very good point at the St Mary's Stadium and I thought Here we go'. But football is not like that.

Obviously, we're suffering from a lack of self belief.

Confidence is something you just can't buy from a shop - you can't ask for it.

When I was playing, it used to happen to our strikers that we would sometimes have a crisis of confidence.

But you can only get it from yourself. Nobody can give it to you. If you expect it from the crowd, then you're wrong.

If you go through one-on-one and miss an easy chance, the crowd will get on your back.

When things are going well, it's completely the opposite and you feel as though you can do nothing wrong.

What Burnley are going through is a collective crisis of confidence and you can't just blame that on missing Andy Gray.

Obviously, we've missed Gray and the goals he brings, but there's other players out there.

I've still not given up on the play-offs. If we win our next three games, we will be back up there challenging again and there would be a realistic chance.

But the bottom line is that we need to reach 55 points to be absolutely sure of staying in the Championship. First and foremost, that's our priority.

It's not going to be easy against Wednesday because they are looking to end a run of five straight defeats.

We could do without them being five points ahead of us.

It's the type of home game that we should be winning.

And it really does not matter how we get the three points - so long as we get them.
