Lightspeed Heat - a collaboration between Whirlwind Heat and Lightspeed Champion - blend catchy hooks and appealingly naïve vocals with burst of raw guitar scrapping (filling the space usually taken by a conventional solo) to create a brand of pop entirely their own.
How Do You Do? calls to mind both dance-thrash acts such as DFA 1979 and Test Icicles (of whom Lightspeed Champion is a former member) and more unlikely suspects such as Weezer's geek-rock.
The b-side In My Dreams is a very different kettle of fish, a floating twilight song even despite the inevitable full-volume rock-out near the end.
The otherwise gentle instrumentation is underpinned with the sound of the wind and burbling electronics, and the song winds to a close in a landscape of archaic Moog chatter.
Let's hope that whatever else this collaboration produces is as good to hear.
