CAMPAIGNERS were out spreading awareness of child sexual exploitation with the help of Bury students, as part of a scheme to support youngsters at risk.

Project Phoenix, a collaboration of public and third sector partners throughout Greater Manchester, is aiming to improve the public's understanding of exploitation through their 'It's not okay' campaign.

Representatives set up in Kay Gardens for National Child Sexual Exploitation Awareness Day last Wednesday (March 18) alongside drama students from Bury College, who performed a play on the subject.

Organisers were pleased with the public feedback, with Project Phoenix representative Lainie Smith saying: "We got a very positive response to the event.

"A lot of older people actually came up to us and and said they were glad the issue was being brought to the forefront.

"Since Project Phoenix started, we have seen a definite improvement as regards issues of child sexual exploitation.

"We now feel that we have a good picture of where the vulnerable people are in Bury and that means that we can do more to help them and to keep the town safe."
