WHILE traffic in Bolton is flowing fine currently, the motorways are another story.

Two lanes are closed on the M60 clockwise after a serious accident at junction 19 for the Heaton Park Three Arrows roundabout.

The lanes are shut heading towards Denton from Simister Island, with traffic diverted via exit and entry slip roads.

A spokesman for the Highways Agency said police officers were dealing with the “serious incident” and there were delays of approximately 20 minutes for motorists using that stretch of the motorway.

The road is expected to be cleared by 10am.

Congestion means the M61 southbound is running very slowly between junction three, Kearsley Spur, and junction one for the M60 at the Swinton Interchange.

On the M62 westbound, a lane is closed on the entry slip road at junction 19 for Heywood after a lorry broke down earlier this morning.

This is affecting traffic travelling on the M62 towards Manchester, with minor delays reported.

There is also general congestion on the M60 anti-clockwise in the usual place – between junction 17 at Prestwich and junction 13 at Worsley.

No accidents or delays to report in Bolton town centre at the morning, but once again drivers in Horwich can expect severe delays.

This is due to the closure of Grimeford Lane and Crown Lane, along with Station Road in Blackrod, which has been causing gridlock at peak times.

Network Rail announced on Tuesday it would reopen Grimeford Lane by the end of next week, so there will be some let-up for commuters from the misery soon.

In Atherton, traffic is slow but moving around the A579 Atherleigh Way and the A577 Wigan Road, with some congestion building around Gadbury Fold.
