A SOLDIER with an exemplary record of military service got into trouble when he decided to go out for a kebab in Blackpool.

Daniel Naylor was seen by police in the kebab shop and was over the alcohol limit when he was later spotted driving by the same officers and stopped.

Naylor, aged 24, of Wasdale Avenue, Breightmet, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

His defence asked magistrates to keep his driving ban as short as possible because the Army was short of drivers.

He was disqualified from driving for 14 months and fined £345 with £85 costs plus a £34 victim surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Prosecutor, Pam Smith, said on February 15 at 1.10am police were dealing with an incident at a kebab shop in Lytham Road when the defendant came in.

Minutes later the same officers saw Naylor driving a VW Golf.

Naylor was stopped and he said he had drunk two pints of beer.

A breath test showed 59 micrograms of alcohol in his body — 35 is the limit.

Peter Cave, defending, said Naylor had drunk three pints, had a sleep and thought he was okay to drive and get a kebab.

As well as any punishment from the court, Naylor would be penalised by the army for bringing the service into disrepute.

Naylor had been in the army five years and was an infantryman and driver in the infantry armoured brigade.

He had an "exemplary" record and had recently served in Afghanistan.
