'SUBSTANTIAL' amounts of money have been lost by victims of a scam.

The latest attacks happened in Blackburn and Rishton, when the elderly people were called by fraudsters pretending to be police officers.

They told them they had to give their bank details because there was a problem with their account.

Cases have also been reported in Burnley.
Det Sgt Tim McDermott, of East division CID, said: “The story used by the offenders appears to change slightly each time but all involve pretending to be a police officer and saying that the victims have been targeted for some sort of crime to do with their bank or bank card.

"This is currently a national problem but there have been a number in East Lancashire, including seven in the last two days.

"It’s vital we immediately remind everyone that they should never give their bank details over the phone to anyone."
Anybody with information or concerns should call police on 101.
