A MAN has suffered suspected "life changing" injuries after a crash involving three cars in Daubhill.

The accident, at about 3.10pm this afternoon, happened when the driver of a black Seat Leon apparently lost control of his car after hitting a speed bump in Deane Church Lane.

The driver, a man in his twenties, is thought to have suffered a serious head injury as well as a broken leg and has been taken to the major trauma centre at Salford Royal Hospital, where he is undergoing a scan.

The Bolton News understands that the driver's injuries may be "potentially life-changing".

It was intially thought he may have been in a critical condition.

Three other people have been taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital and have been described by the ambulance service as "walking wounded".

Eyewitnesses said they saw the Seat car driving at "about 100 miles per hour" along the residential road.

The vehicle hit a Volkswagen Polo car as well as a Mini Cooper as it spun out of control.

An elderly couple travelling in the Polo are believed to be suffering from shock after the smash.

Chris Irish and Melissa Hall were walking along Deane Church Lane when the car sped past them.

Mr Irish, aged 25 said: "He was going really, really fast - I would say he was going close to 100 miles per hour.

"If a child had happened to step out into the road at that point then they wouldn't have stood a chance.

"It was strange because he was going at a normal speed and then suddenly sped up out of nowhere.

"When we were coming back we saw the crash and I said I thought it must have been that black car."

Ms Hall, aged 29, said: "He looked like quite a young guy but he was going really, really fast - if we had been there a few minutes earlier we might have been involved."

Emergency services are on the scene and the road is closed at the junction of Deane Church Lane and St Helens Road.
