A 38-YEAR-OLD woman has been ordered to pay £210 for throwing a cigarette end on the floor in Nelson town centre.
Beata Kieljan of Henry Street, Nelson, failed to attend Burnley Magistrates’ Court, but the case was proved in her absence and the court imposed a fine of £55 plus £135 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

On September 5 last year, a Pendle Council environmental crime officer saw Kieljan throw her cigarette end on the floor in Scotland Road, just metres from a litter bin.
The officer approached her and she was later issued with a fixed penalty notice, carrying a fine of £75. But this went unpaid and she was summonsed to court.
Councillor David Clegg said: “This is the second successful prosecution for cigarette litter this year alone.”
“This goes to show that we and the courts take this type of littering as seriously as any other.
“People seem to believe that dropping the odd cigarette end doesn’t matter. But it’s anti-social, unsightly and, importantly, against the law.
“This prosecution should serve as a warning to anyone that they can face a hefty fine, all for failing to do the decent thing and put their rubbish in the bin.”
