A STREET has spent six months in darkness after developers failed to properly finish the estate.

Street lamps were only installed in Fazackerly Close, Fernhurst Farm, Blackburn, by developers Miller Homes in October, three months after families moved in.

But they have remained switched off throughout the winter, even though residents have now been promised they will be working soon.

Julie Evans, 50, of Fazackerly Close, her 10-year-old daughter, Dawn, and her partner Stuart Jennings, 30, moved into their new home in July.

Miss Evans said the road was also full of pot-holes' as it is yet to be finished.

Miss Evans and Mr Jennings, a tool maker, have now demanded action to end the dangerous situation'.

Miller Homes has admitted that it was a long procedure but that work would be completed and then the road would be handed over to the Blackburn with Darwen Council for adoption.

Fazackerly Close has eight homes. It was the last phase in the Fernhurst Farm develop-ment, just off Bolton Road.

The family paid £180,000 for the detached three-bedroom home and moved there from their previous home in Prince Lee Meadows, Darwen.

Miss Evans said: "Since moving in we have been continuously ringing Miller Homes but we are still waiting for the lights. It's really dangerous as there are loads of pot-holes in the road.

"It's just disgusting. The house itself is nice, it would be our dream home if it were not for the matter of the street lighting and the road."

A spokesman for Miller Homes said the street lighting columns had been damaged and could not be certified for use until they were mended.

"Once they have been tested they will be handed over for adoption by the council in operational form.

"With regards to the road surface - when work is finished a camera is put down the sewers to make sure they are clear before the top coat goes down on the road.

"We are waiting for the contractor to repair the sewers.

"It does seem a long procedure but unfort-unately it takes time."
