THE father of a businessman arrested in a money laundering investigation said his family have done "nothing wrong".

The Metropolitan Police searched two houses in Newstead Drive, Daubhill and the premises of a business in Swan Lane Mill on Monday.

Latif Jiva, aged 41, was arrested on suspicion of money laundering, after three other people in London were arrested last year.

Mr Jiva runs Rosemead Designs, a home furnishings business which operates out of the Higher Swan Lane.

His father Yakub, now retired, who lives next door to Mr Jiva, said his son was an educated person who "knows he cannot do things like that".

The Metropolitan Police said that the 41-year-old man arrested on Monday has now been bailed until April, while the searches of all three properties had ended.

Yakub Jiva said: "We co-operated with them and said look at what you want because we have not done anything. I have been working hard all my life so why should we do something like this.

"We have done nothing whatsoever.

"Latif has never done anything like this. He is an educated person and knows he cannot do anything like that.

"If you have done nothing wrong, then there is no need to worry.

"There were so many police vans outside and we had not done anything.

"I just want peace of mind and peace of life.

"We have worked hard all our lives so why would we change now?"

Several tactical aid vans and a crime scene investigator's van were stationed at Swan Lane Mill and outside the two adjoining houses in Newstead Drive.

One house is inhabited by Mr Jiva, and the other by his father.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing flashes inside the houses consistent with police taking photographs.

Boxes and bags were also removed from the houses by officers.

Rosemead Designs has manufactured curtains, cushions, blinds, bedding and other textile products for more than 25 years.

In 2012, Mr Jiva spoke to The Bolton News about Rosemead's plans to move some manufacturing operations back from China to the UK, bucking general trends.

He attended the former South Bolton College and then studied law at the University of Hull.

In the past he has worked for PriceWaterhouseCoopers, the FI Group which is now IT Zansa Group, and for a management consultancy in London.

Mr Jiva was once named Asian Lite newspaper’s Social Entrepreneur of the Year for his business activities and community work at Bolton’s Ghosia Community Centre.
