HEALTH bosses have downgraded the 'major incident' alert at the Royal Bolton Hospital.
But non-emergency operations are still being cancelled as doctors and nurses battle to free up beds and cope with the rise in emergency admissions.
The 'major incident' - an emergency plan put in place when there are too many patients for clinicians to treat and take care off appropriately - was downgraded at 8pm.
Managers are constantly monitoring the situation in the over-burdened A&E, and a spokesman for the hospital said they could announce a 'major incident' again if the problem worsens.
