TEACHERS at a Blackburn school have given pupils a lesson in creativity by producing their own parody music video.

Pleckgate teachers have made a parody of the BBC’s version of The Beach Boys’ 1966 classic song God Only Knows.

Staff appeared on screen lip-syncing to the voices of Pharrell Williams, Elton John, One Direction and other music stars.

The BBC’s version, which was done to raise money for Children In Need, took a year to make, but Pleckgate’s teachers recorded their version in one day.

It was the brainchild of head of creative arts Greg Dean, who filmed the staff on a green screen in his classroom, before adding all the backgrounds during editing.

The music video was premiered at the school’s festive show on December 17, and has now been posted on the school website.

It is also being shown at breaktimes and lunchtime on a giant video screen in the school’s dining room to keep students entertained.

Greg said that by making the video the staff hoped that pupils and parents will enjoy seeing their teachers in a different light.

He said: “Everybody was really keen to get involved, nobody needed to be press-ganged into it.

“It was just something a bit different to play at the Christmas show, and at this time of year it was nice to do something feelgood for the staff and kids.

“It was the last thing at the show, so it was top of the bill.

– the showstopper really.

“It was really well received by parents and pupils.

“They laughed all along at each member of staff as they appeared on screen.”

Head teacher Mark Bradshaw plays four different instruments in the video.

He said: “It was a great day filming in front of the media studies green screen.

“Staff enjoyed taking part and the finished video was very well received at the Christmas Show.”

Twenty six global musicians took part in the BBC version, including Sir Elton John, One Direction, Kylie Minogue and Stevie Wonder.

God Only Knows originally hit Number 2 on the UK Top 40 when it was released in 1966 as part of a double A-side single with Wouldn’t It Be Nice. The track features on The Beach Boys’ 11th studio album Pet Sounds.
