A CHILDREN’S hospice will receive a cash boost worth tens of thousands of pounds after two of television’s biggest shows pledged support.

Derian House, Chorley, supports children with life-limiting conditions from all over Lancashire.

The hospice will benefit from The X-Factor winner Ben Haenow’s first single which will raise money for Together For Short Lives, which will give a portion of the proceeds to Derian.

On Saturday, Benidorm and League Of Gentleman star Steve Pemberton took part in The Chase on ITV1, nominating Derian his chosen charity. The actor and comedian, who is from Chorley and attended St Michael’s High School, walked away with £22,000, all of which will go to helping children at the hospice.

Simon Cowell’s company Syco will donate 100 per cent of its profits from the sale of each CD and download of the single Something I Need.

This is expected to be at least £1 for each CD and 20p for each download.

The money raised from this single will go to 68 children’s palliative-care organisations, including Derian House.

Sophie Saunders, from Derian House, said: “Our partnership with Together For Short Lives and the support this creates helps us on our mission and makes such a huge difference to the families we support.

"Steve has been a fantastic and longstanding support of Derian. He did fantastically well on The Chase and and all the staff here were cheering him on. Everyone here is appreciative of his valuable support.”

A spokesman for Together For Short Lives said: “The partnership has raised more than £2 million, which we have shared with our member charities to help them provide vital care and support to children and families.”
