PHOTOGRAPHY fans are invited to take a journey through post-70s Britain at the Turnpike Gallery's latest exhibition.

Curated by Leigh based photo-artist David Walker, Between Today and Yesterday is a thought-provoking free show featuring some of the leading photo-artists in the UK today and runs from Saturday through to March 17.

David said: "When I was approached by the Turnpike Gallery to curate a show involving photography, it was never my intention for it to become a history of fine art photography in Britain.

"But based on my personal recollections regarding certain photographers' work, this aspect is impossible to ignore altogether.

"I did, however, want to put together an exciting exhibition involving an eclectic mix of British artists who have helped inspire me to create, I hope, some interesting work of my own."

Artists featured include: Richard Billingham, Brian Griffin, Paul Hill, Peter Kennard, Idris Khan, Raymond Moore, Joss McKinley, Martin Parr, Tony Ray Jones, Hannah Starkey and David Walker. A fully illustrated catalogue accompanies the exhibition, priced at £5.

As always, the gallery is providing a programme of workshops for adults and children to accompany the exhibition.

A five-week series of adult workshops for those interested in drawing and watercolour painting will run throughout February (21 and 28) and March (7, 21 and 28).

Arts Active workshops based on the current exhibition and half-term activities for families and children are also available during February and March.

To find out more about all of the workshops contact the gallery on 01942 404469 or via email at turnpikegalley@wlct.org.

It is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm and on Saturdays from 9.30am to 3.30pm.
