A MAN who fell from a multi-storey car park had a history of mental-health problems, an inquest heard.

David Howard, 52, fell from Millennium car park in Curzon Street, Burnley, on September 9.

The inquest heard Mr Howard started with depression in 1985 and had complex mental health issues.

His mother, Sylvia Howard, said Mr Howard had been unable to work for many years, but took his medication.

The inquest was told Mr Howard had regular blood tests at Skipton Hospital but became anxious after being told he may have to go to Airedale Hospital for a test.

As part of his anxiety stemmed from the fact that he may have to take a bus for the first time in years.

His family said he may have gone to Burnley to “practise” getting on a bus. His brothers, Richard and Michael, attended the inquest, and said they did not believe Mr Howard intended to take his own life.

ButTwo shoppers provided statements saying they had seen Mr Howard deliberately push himself off the car park.

Reaching a narrative verdict, East Lancashire coroner Richard Taylor said Mr Howard may have felt panicky after finding himself in a strange town.
