TURTON Rotary Club's annual sleigh appeal takes to the road on Friday with the switching on of the Edgworth and Chapeltown Christmas lights.

The popular attraction sees rotary members take the sleigh round the streets of Turton during the week and attend supermarkets at the weekend right up until December 23.

With support from members of Bolton le Moors Rotary Club, president Jim Turner hopes to again top the £10,000 mark from collections.

"It is a very popular with everyone and this year we have had requests to take the sleigh to a number of extra events," he said.

"It is one of two major fund raisers that we do in the year and I am confident we will do well again from our collections.

"The funds raised will be distributed over the coming weeks and months to local charities, groups and organisations with further donations going to worthwhile international charities.

"I would like to thank local supermarkets Asda at Astley Bridge, Morrisons at Harwood and The Co-operative at Bromley Cross for allowing us to make collections and to RRG Bolton Toyota for once again providing us with a tow vehicle for the sleigh. We are grateful to The Last Drop Hotel for allowing us to base the sleigh with them.

The Chistmas appeal will run from November 28 to December 23. For more details visit the club's website at www.turtonrotaryclub.org.uk.
