YULETIDE spirit was running high at a Christmas fair which smashed its previous year’s fundraising to raise more than £2,000.

Kearsley Mount Methodist Church threw open its doors and invited the community in to peruse the many stalls on show.

About 300 people attended the festive fair, which was opened by the Mayor of Bolton and raised a total of £2,071 for church funds.

The event was organised by Julia Pattinson with Kearsley Youth Brass Band on hand to entertain the crowds with carols.

Stephen Tonge, the church council’s member for community involvement, said: “The money is used for the church’s community activities so it always finds its way back to the community.

“The surprise pound stall was the most popular, a sell out, and the most profitable stall was the handicrafts which made about £370.

“Thank you to everyone who helped organise this — it is something you cannot do on your own.”

Kearsley Mount Methodist Church is holding Kearsley’s Christmas tree lights switch on next Tuesday, December 2, at 6.45pm.
