A BOLTON MP praised the work of Christian Aid after pledging to tackle climate change at their latest Hunger for Justice event in Westhoughton.

Julie Hilling, MP for Bolton West, was invited to the meeting at St Andrew and St George United Reformed Church which highlighted the dangers of climate change.

She agreed to promote ambitious climate change targets in the run-up to the UN climate negotiations next year.

Christian Aid is calling on the government to work to reduce carbon emissions and increase the use of renewable energy resources, such as wind and solar powers.

Mr Hilling said: “It was great to meet Rachel Hemingway from Christian Aid Bolton and hear about her campaign for strong action on climate change.

“Christian Aid is an excellent organisation, working to tackle the root causes of poverty around the world.”

Rachel Hemingway from Christian Aid added: “The Hunger for Justice Weekend gave us the chance in Bolton to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with people around the world, and encouraged us all to take steps towards a safer, cleaner future.”
