A BLACKBURN Vets is appealing for information about a 12-week old puppy that was brought to them with life threatening injuries.

The adorable female Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross was brought in to Abbeydale Vets in Preston New Road, by a man who found her in a critical condition in St James Street in Shear Brow on Tuesday.

The pup, which they have named Scarlet due to her red tan colouring, had multiple injuries including a swollen face, a fractured femur and pelvis and was suffering from shock.

She underwent surgery surgery on her femur last Wednesday as well as been given fluids and is said to be responding well.

The vets is keen to find out the cause of her injuries and launched a Facebook appeal for more information.

Lianne Lowe, practice manager at Abbeydale Vets said: "Scarlet was in a really bad way when she came to us, we were unsure whether she would make it through the night. We know that she has suffered some kind of trauma but we do not know what it was caused by.

"Since she has been with us she has been doing really well. We have all taken her under our care and have been taking it in turns to bring her home with us so she can socialise with other dogs and cats rather then end up in a kennel. She's at a really important age and we need to make sure that she receives the right care."

More than 29,000 people have viewed the Facebook appeal but as yet no one has come forward with any information.

Scarlet has a distinguishing white patch on the back of her neck but is not chipped and was found without any form of identification on her.

Lianne added: "She will stay with us for the next six weeks while she recovers from the operation. However in the next week or so if we are not contacted by her owners we will be looking to try and find her a new home.

"The treatment she has received has cost around £1,000. As a vets we have footed most of the bill but we also had a kind donation of £200 from Perfect Paws pet training in Oswaldtwistle.

"She is a lovely sweet dog that gets on well with other dogs and cats. She is also very clever and has a fondness for chewing things.

"Next Wednesday she is due to start dog training and would make someone a really loving pet."

Anyone with information about Scarlet should contact the vets on 01254 681811.
