FIREFIGHTERS attended the Macron Stadium during Wanderers match on Friday night after rival fans set off smoke grenades under the away stands.
A crew from Horwich fire station were called to the ground after it is understood Wigan Athletic supoprters set off the smoke grenades in the concourse within the stadium, when their team went down 3-0.
The firefighters waited for the smoke to naturally ventilate and identify there was no fire before handing the matter over to police and Bolton Wanderers staff to investigate.
The Whites won the match 3-1.
