BURY is set to shine at the town’s fourth annual Light Night a week on Friday.

This year’s event will see colourful and eclectic shapes being projected on to a range of Bury landmarks.

The spectacular show also includes Bollywood dancing, plus music and storytelling from around the globe.

Buildings such as The Rock, Mill Gate, Castle Armoury, Bury Art Museum, Bury Library, The Met, Bury Transport Museum as well as nearby churches and businesses will be lit up for all to see.

Cllr Jane Lewis, Bury Council cabinet member for communities and culture, said: “Bury Light Night is a spectacular event, full of family entertainment and most of it is free of charge.

“We invite everyone in Bury, and visitors from far away, to come to the town centre and enjoy the many great attractions we have to offer.”

Other attractions include a hot air balloon at Bury Transport Museum, a parade by Band Baja – which usually welcomes the bride and groom at Asian weddings – and a poetry event in the Gallipoli Gardens.

One of the artistic companies involved, Illuminos from the town of Ramsbottom, will project dramatic Eastern scenes on to the Castle Armoury and on to the walls of the Debenhams store on The Rock.

Rob Vale, a spokesman for Illuminos, said his plans for this year’s event are the most ambitious yet.

He said: “We’re so thrilled to be working on Bury Light Night again this year.

“It’s great to have the opportunity to bring our projection artwork to our local town, and to create something totally unique for the buildings.

“This year we are working across two very different sites – old and new Bury – so linking the two projections together thematically was a really interesting challenge, and the Eastern Nights theme has really sparked our imagination.”

The events will run from 6pm to 9pm.
