A 71-YEAR-OLD woman was attacked by two thugs as she made he way down a Blackburn street in her mobility scooter.

The robbers grabbed hold of the victim’s headscarf and wrestled with her until they could snatch her handbag, which had £100 inside.

Police said the woman had been left ‘shaken’ by the vicious attack, which happened in Fountains Avenue, around 5pm on Saturday.

An investigation has been launched and detectives are appealing for anybody with any information to report it to them.

Det Sgt Adrian McHugh, from Blackburn CID, said the victim, who had been shopping and was on her way home when she was attacked, had not been able to give a description of the robbers as they had approached from behind her.

He said: “This was a very nasty thing to happen.

“It was a vicious attack and particularly cowardly for two men to attack a woman on a scooter.

“It does not get much lower than that.

“One of the men grabbed her headscarf and the second wrestled her handbag from her before running off.

“The victim has some aches and shakes but, fortunately, she did not suffer any serious injuries.

“She is also worried the attackers will come back.”

The bag was described as being a blue lady’s shoulder bag. As well as the cash, it also contained personal bank cards.

Anybody with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
