A TERMINALLY-ILL man was admitted to hospital the day after it was annouced that a housing association wanted to evict him from his home.

James Gibbons is facing eviction after a string of anti-social behaviour incidents at his property in Huncoat.

The most serious saw 63-year-old Mr Gibbons's stepson Michael Tillotson, 26, convicted of making a nail bomb at the terraced property in Windermere Avenue.

But now bedridden Mr Gibbons is recuperating after being treated at Burnley General's high dependancy unit.

Mr Gibbons, who suffers from cylicosis, asbestosis and emphysema, took a turn for the worse on Tuesday. He says that he has just two years to live.

Speaking from ward 16 at the hospital he said: "I can't believe anyone would think I am a danger to my neighbours or causing any problems. I am a very sick man."

He said the news that his landlord, Hyndburn Homes, was seeking an eviction had "knocked him for six" but that his condition was slowly improving after the scare.

Mr Gibbons has told how he would have nowhere else to live if he was evicted.

Mr Gibbons was not charged for having the bomb at his home, but in court last month he was slammed by Judge Beverley Lunt who said he "had got away with it".

The court was told that charges were not being brought against him because of his poor health.

Police believe the bomb, made by filling a baby milk powder tin with fireworks, nails and screws, was to be used against Mr Gibbons's ex-wife Carol Tillotson, who lived in Blackburn.

Fifty people were evacuated after the device was discovered by officers last summer.

Following the court case, staff at Hyndburn Homes are preparing the possession order which could be in front of a judge next month.
