A budding American Footballer is dreaming of a scholarship in the United States after he passed his GCSEs with flying colours.

Matt Walsh, who plays as a wide receiver for Chorley Buccaneers, was one of the top performers at Wellfield High School, Leyland, on results day.

The talented 16-year-old achieved one A* and six grade As to secure a place at Runshaw College, and eventually hopes to study in America.

Matt, who joined the Buccaneers two years ago, said: “I’m over the moon with my results.

“I didn’t expect to do as well as I have.

“I’d quite like to do a sports scholarship in America at some point and I guess this is the first step towards that.

“I love sport and particularly American Football.

“I joined the Buccaneers two years ago and even got to study the sport as part of my PE GCSE course, which I really enjoyed.

“It was hard work but I’m delighted it’s all paid off.”

Wellfield headteacher Piers Tolson added: “We’re delighted for Matt.

“He’s a very talented sportsman who worked hard for these grades.

“The world is his oyster now and we will be watching his progress with great interest.”
