POLICE have called on fans attending Burnley’s crunch game against Manchester United tomorrow to enjoy the occasion, and not get into trouble.

With Turf Moor sold out for the Clarets’ second home game back in the Premier League, police have asked fans to behave in a ‘responsible manner’.

MORE TOP STORIES:

Around 4,000 Manchester United fans will be attending what is a crunch game between two teams desperate for a first win this season.

Police are also warning fans not to bring flares to the ground following an incident at the match against Chelsea last weekend where a smoke flare was thrown on to the pitch.

Stephen Lewington, 21, of Goat Road, Surrey, has been charged with throwing a missile on to a football pitch contrary to Section 2 and 5 of the Football Offences Act 1991.

He is due to appear at Burnley Magistrates Court on Friday, September 5. Chief Inspector Russell Procter said: “This will be an exciting day for football fans as Burnley take on Manchester United at Turf Moor.

“As always, we have worked very closely with Burnley FC when planning the policing operation for the game.

“There won’t be any tickets on sale on the day of the match and I would like to advise anyone who doesn’t have a ticket not to attend the ground on Saturday. Our aim is to ensure public safety and to urge people to enjoy the match safely and we would ask everyone who is coming to the game to behave in a responsible manner.

“Given the large number of people attending the game, I would also urge people to keep their valuables safe, cars locked with nothing on display.

“Use safe and secure car parks and keep your personal belongings, like your keys, wallets and purses, in zipped bags or front pockets.”

I've done that myself , Noddy. Should be a good start to the day.

No need to worry about trouble from Burnlah fans. They will be quiet after five minutes and will sneak off with their tails between their hooves shortly after half time.

Then go into town and wreck their own town centre as they did a few years back , after a thrashing by their neighbours . Now that's clever. !

Calm? The Burnley fans are going to be wetting themselves before this game. They seem to think United are their biggest rivals at the moment...
