POLICE are appealing for witnesses of a crash in Belmont that left two women in hospital.

The crash happened at about 8.30am yesterday when a Vauxhall Astra tried to overtake a car but was met by an oncoming vehicle.

The Vauxhall smashed into a tree before spinning down an embankment and hitting another tree.

The driver, a 25-year-old woman from Blackburn, suffered bruises, while the front seat passenger, a 20-year-old woman, also from Blackburn, was left with head, stomach and groin injuries.

Police say their enquiries are ongoing to trace the driver of the oncoming vehicle, who is a possible witness.

Sgt Dave Hogarth, from Lancashire Police's road policing unit, said: “The driver and passenger of the Vauxhall were fortunate to receive relatively minor injuries.

"I am keen to trace any witnesses, and I am particularly keen to speak to the driver of the vehicle travelling in the opposite direction to the Astra who may be able to offer vital evidence surrounding the circumstances of this collision.”

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 quoting log number 0233 of Tuesday, August 19.

A bearded man in beige pyjamas pulled out on me on a roundabout on Saturday - the car was a Toyota but too old to be a hire car. By his curse at me, he clearly didn't think that he had done anything wrong, dunno what he was playing at. Amazingly it was close to Deane. Maybe I shouldn't have braked and made 25 whiplash claims? Or maybe it was a good job that I braked before he conjured up 25 pyjama clad witnesses swearing blind that it was my fault and I had caused 25 bad necks of the passengers in his saloon car. All of this is traditional in Bolton. Are pyjamas in vogue just now? There seem to be a lot about in public these days.
