PROMOTERS of one of Burnley’s largest-ever dance music events have promised to come back bigger and better after impressing crowds at Towneley Park.

More than 1,000 people braved temperamental weather conditions to watch K-Klass, Rob Tissera and Stu Allan light up the Drop The Beat Festival.

Burnley actor Muzz Khan, 32, also made a rare trip back to play his first ever hometown DJ set.

And if future discussions with council bosses bear fruit, festival organisers Madge Nawaz and Craig Kennedy may be back in 2015 with a weekend gathering.

So far the festival’s roots have been in dance music, with the pair testing the water with two smaller gigs last year.

But with question marks over the aborted Towneley Live event still looming, the promoters steered clear of rock and pop names. However there could be a change of heart if Drop The Beat has a third outing in 12 months time.

Madge said: “It was absolutely fantastic - really successful. The weather was a bit on and off but everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

“We are not businessmen - we just wanted to put something on to bring people into Burnley, we used local companies and there were around 100 staff working during the day.

“Next year we could look at getting some 80s bands, on the Friday, for the older audience, and then have dance music on the Saturday.”

Mayor of Burnley Coun Andy Tatchell was in attendance and a number of senior councillors were on hand to give their support.

More than 25 acts formed part of the line-up. One festival-goer, Darrell Durrant, said on Twitter: “Drop the Beat was a massive success aaaaand I have no voice left!”
