SEAN Dyche’s Burnley team might well be the bookmakers’ favourites for the drop this season — but some die-hard fans have backed them to win it at odds of up to 10,000 to one.

Danny Ings and Co getting the better of the likes of Wayne Rooney and Yaya Toure may seem unlikely, but stranger things have already happened in football.

MORE TOP STORIES:

And despite a difficult start to the season, which will see Burnley face Chelsea, Swansea, and Manchester United before the month is out, around 100 fans have backed the Clarets at odds of 5,000 to one with William Hill.

A spokesman said the bookies, which has 2,300 branches in the UK, could lose hundreds of thousands of pounds if the almost impossible does happen.

He said: “It would be our second worst result after Chelsea. People are backing them but it’s because they are such a big price, rather than the number of bets.”

Football League sponsor Sky Bet was offering odds of 10,000 to one, as was Coral, which has a branch just yards from the turnstiles at Turf Moor, in Harry Potts Way.

Coral spokesman Simon Clare said: “In terms of bets online, Burnley are our biggest loser in the Premier League book despite just 33 bets. At 10,000 to one, it doesn’t take much.

“We have taken just under £100 in total in 16 individual bets from Burnley addresses, and the biggest online bet is £20.”

Paddy Power, offering lower odds of 1,000 to one for the Clarets to win the Premier League has taken 21 bets of up to £10.

Five fans think they’ll finish in the top four at odds of 300 to one.

A spokesman said “God loves a trier.”

CLARETS’ ODDS

Burnley are either 4/7 or 8/13 on with most bookmakers to go down, with QPR, West Brom and Leicester their fellow favourites for the drop.

The best money for the Clarets securing a top-four finish is with Paddy Power, at 300-1, but most of their rivals figure it is a 750-1 shot and,  Skybet, Ladbrokes and Unibet offering 1,000-1.

Meanwhile Burnley’s odds of beating Chelsea in Monday’s opener are around 8-1.

Seven separate Chelsea players are listed as being favourite to score first before the host’s Danny Ings, on 8-1.

Deluded. They get to the premier league and start believing they will win it!

I'm not a betting man but if I was I'd know I'd be wasting my money betting on that and I'd rather chuck £100 on burnley getting relegated, if anything.

So the people of Burnley's idea of fun is to pay for a slip of paper that says they will win the Premiership - knowing full well they won't?

Sounds hysterical.
