A TEACHER and her pupil celebrated the end of the school year in an unorthodox way — by saying goodbye to their long locks.

Last month Eloise Douglas, a Year Eight pupil at Bury Church of England High, and geography teacher Nicola Price, went under the scissors to donate their hair to charity.

The pair gave their hair to Little Princess Trust, which supplies bespoke wigs for poorly children suffering from hair loss for a variety of reasons.

Eloise and Mrs Price, aged 34, had hoped to raise at least £350 but have doubled their target after seeing around £700 of donations roll in so far.

Mrs Price, who left Bury Church this summer to take up a post in Nelson in September, said: “It was scary, and we are both still getting used to our chin-length bobs, but the support has been fantastic.

“We have had a real mixture of donations from different places. Around £120 came from school, I collected £40 at the Beat-Herder festival and Eloise single-handedly brought in between £400 and £500.

“It was a really good way to end the school year, and Eloise was incredibly brave.”

Louise Livesey, a part-time mobile hairdresser whose son Sam, is in Year Eight and is a keen charities volunteer, wielded the scissors on the day.
