UP TO 50 homes could lose their water supply again this afternoon as engineers work to fix a burst main.

It comes after 140 home reported having no water in Stonehill Drive, Blackburn, for four hours this morning.

The water is now back on, but a spokesman for United Utilities said the supply could be lost again.

He said: “The delay so far is because we are waiting for the Highways Agency to attend to remove a lamppost so we can get access to where the burst is.

“Approximately 50 homes may have to go off while we repair the burst, but we will not know until we dig right down.

“If it is not bad, we could do a repair with the main still live. It just depends on what we find.”

The spokesman added that as soon as the Highways Agency arrives this afternoon, work will begin.
