A TEAM of valeters at a Blackburn car dealership have cleaned up – after scooping £20,000 on the National Lottery.

Eight staff at Bowker BMW, Trident Way, will share the windfall after their ticket was one of 50 selected at random in a Lotto Raffle draw earlier this month.

For one lucky worker, 71-year-old Blackburn man Alan Cook, it was his final go on the syndicate after 11 years of playing – because he retired last week.

Service adviser Mick Barton said the win, which will see each member take home £2,500, came as a real surprise.

The 32-year-old said: “Like anyone who wins the lottery I was in shock. I think most of us were.

“When John Richards, who runs the syndicate, called me to tell me we'd won, I had millions in mind. But £20,000 is a good number too – and very welcome.

“I've already spent my share of the win on some work we’re having done on the house.

“I know some of the guys will have spent it on holidays. And one of the members put it towards a new car. Everyone at the dealership has been pleased for us.”

The other members of the syndicate were Dave White, 45, from Oswaldtwistle; Wayne Carroll, 40, from Burnley; Peter Bell, 55, from Accrington; Liam Hamilton, 30, from Blackburn, and Mark McKay, 40, from Preston.

The Lotto Raffle sees every line purchased on the normal Lotto game given a random, unique 12-digit code which is automatically entered into a separate draw.
