MORE than 30 people took part in a walk to raise awareness of suicide in young people.

The ‘Walk with an Angel’ event was organised by the family of Darwen girl Vicky Harrison, who took her own life in 2010 at the age of 21 because she couldn't find a job.

The ten-mile walk started from Witton Park, and finished up at the Mill Hill pub with a fundraising event, which was attended by more than 40 people.

Around 35 walkers took part in the walk, which raised money for Papyrus, the only registered UK charity that raises awareness of, and works to prevent, young suicide.

Vicky’s father Tony Harrison, 57, who lives in Sudell Road said: “The North West has the highest rate of suicide in the UK.

“There’s still a lot of stigma attached to it, and we want to deal with that, get people talking, and hopefully save some young lives.

“We won’t stop every young suicide, but if we can stop some that would be brilliant.

“A lot of people come along and walk with their angel, whoever that may be.

“A lot of people walk with Vicky, but other people have been affected by suicide as well.

“This is the third year we’ve done the walk, and we want to carry it on year after year.”

so tragic for the young girl and her family but some much needed support for others who might be feeling such desperation as this poor young lady once did.well done to all involved.
