BURGLARS targeted homes in Blackburn while Asian residents were out enjoying a meal at the end of a day’s fasting.

Three houses in the Pleckgate area were broken into, and police believe the offenders may have been looking for Asian gold.

MORE TOP STORIES:

Two homes in Rhodes Avenue were burgled and the thieves made off with a variety of goods including cash, cheques, laptops, iPads, a Sky TV box, and a television.

A third property in Brantfell Road was also ransacked, but the burglars escaped empty-handed.

Residents believe that the thieves deliberately targeted the area on Saturday evening, expecting houses to be empty while residents visited family and friends to break their Ramadan fast and share an ‘iftar’ evening meal at sunset.

During Ramadan, food and drink is served daily, before sunrise and after the sun sets.

Police believe four men could be responsible for the thefts, which took place between 3.30pm and 11.50pm, and officers are asking for help in tracing a black Nissan Juke 4x4.

Officers are asking anyone who saw the car, with four men on board, to come forward.

DS Paul Gaynor from Lancashire Police said: “We believe that the people responsible were looking for Asian gold.

“If anybody has seen anything suspicious in the area at the time, please give us a call on 101.”

Police have stepped up patrols in the area, and the local neighbourhood watch is also on alert.

l Two men, both 27, have been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

The men, from Stockport and Manchester, were in police custody yesterday.

Well, let's take a guess about those comments..
Small child knocked over, burka clad driver that failed to stop at the scene.
You might consider that would be an excuse for the racists to rush into comment.
Or, on the other hand, perhaps she has had a pique of conscience and gone to the Police, so the matter is now sub judice.

We will never know.

Surely, if they are going out, she will be all 'blinged up', so leave nothing in the house; apart from some shiny tinfoil and twinkly Xmas wrapping paper.
And to think, once over, they called prisons, an education centre for criminals.
These people need to be jailed, if only to learn, when to commit a crime!

Anyone care to explain why, these particular burglaries are of more significance than the many?
Three, out of how many, that same night?
Am I supposed to differentiate something, because the victims were what?
Aren't we not supposed to class crimes this way..by creed nor colour?
All are victims, aren't they?
Was anything of more value stolen, than in any other crime?
Are Asians, excluded from general crime, by race?
Or even, Muslims, by dint of their creed?
Am sure that, when I learned journalism, I was taught that, you report the facts, without bias..
You, Ms al-Othman, should be utterly ashamed of this article, as it does nothing to your craft nor credit.
It shows nothing but utter bias and as such, is forwarded, to the Press Complaints Commission, for consideration, in ethical journalism..
It states that...
The Press, whilst free to be partisan, must distinguish clearly between comment, conjecture and fact.
Therefore, I cite that, your comment is, pure conjecture and not fact, and at best, written as to incite a form of race and creed speculation as to that crime.
In short, you chose to highlight those few crimes, on that one night, above all the others, to incite a form of racial/credo experience, that is not manifest in the wider community.
Unless you have, before the fact, evidence or statements that, Muslins were the targets, you should retract your statement. As I find that, it's both inflammatory and pure speculation.
Common people have enough fears in life, without you adding to them, with speculative reportage, that has no foundation in facts.
Report the facts, not opinion.
