TWO children escaped from a house fire in Bury Road, Breightmet.
The youngsters were home alone at 12.10pm yesterday when the fire broke out in the kitchen.
Neighbours alerted fire crews who used a fan to get rid of smoke from the kitchen.
The children had got out of the house by the time the crew had arrived.
A fire brigade spokesman said: βIt looks like the fire began in an unattended pan of food on the cooker.
"Fortunately, no one was injured, but the kitchen has suffered some damage.β
