BURY Council has confirmed that 37 per cent of Government funding for potholes has been spent.

The council was granted £192,770 from a weather repair fund in March, and was granted a further £244,561 after applying to the Government’s national fund.

At last Wednesday’s full council it was revealed that £70,741 has so far been spent, which is 37 per cent of the original weather repair fund.

Cllr Tony Isherwood said: “This money only goes a fraction of the way to making up for the savage cuts that the Government has previously made to our highways funding, and so it is clear that the blame for potholes on our roads lies firmly at their door.”
