MORE than 1,500 people enjoyed this year’s garden party at Smithills Hall.

The Grade I listed manor house threw open its doors for the annual event, which featured craft stalls, wood carving demonstrations and face painting.

Other activities included myths and legends storytelling, and live music from the Midweek Sax Choir and the Bennett Choir.

There was also an appearance by Dr Zoolittle who was accompanied by a variety of creatures, including snakes, tarantulas, meerkats and rabbits.

Ann Marie Elliott-Clark, from Friends of Smithills Hall, said she was delighted visitor numbers were up on last year.
