A 21-YEAR-OLD man who had been provided with a high powered BMW to attend a wedding was caught doing hand-brake turns on the car park of the Vue cinema in Blackburn.

Blackburn magistrates heard police were investigating another incident at the cinema when they witnessed him driving at speed at a time when there were people walking across the car park.

“The allegation is that he was showing off to friends at the risk of injury to innocent bystanders,” said Catherine Allan, prosecuting.

“When the police spoke to him he accepted he had been “really stupid” and apologised.”

Ramzan Ilyas Kola, 21, of Audley Lane, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

He was made subject to a curfew between 9pm and 7am for 14 weeks, banned from driving for 18 months and ordered to pay £145 costs.

Miss Allan said at the time of the incident it was dark, it had been raining and the road surface was slippery.

She said the BMW M3 Kola was driving was a hire car.

Richard Prew, defending, said Kola had come into possession of the car for a family wedding.

He said the driving was over a very short period of time and there was no suggestion anyone had to run out of the way or take evasive action.”

His inexperience got the better of him and he accepts he shouldn’t have been driving in the manner described,” said Mr Prew.
