Chorley has topped the county charts with figures showing more affordable homes being built over the past three years than any other area.

The past three years have seen more than 500 homes provided in the borough.

Various social landlords have built the homes, including Adactus Housing Association, who have constructed 293 new residences since 2008.

Councillor Graham Dunn, who oversees housing at Chorley Council, said: “Government figures show that more affordable homes have been built in Chorley over the past three years than anywhere else in Lancashire and our performance as a local authority is bucking the national trend of a decline in house building.

“We’ve been making land, that has become derelict, across the borough available and all our housing association partners have contributed to this success. We are looking forward to continuing with a vibrant programme of new homes in the future.”

Chorley’s announcement of passing the 500 homes target follows the unveiling of new Adactus properties at Clancutt Lane in Coppull.

Adactus Housing Group Chief Executive, Paul Lees, said: “We are delighted to have played a role in helping the council produce more affordable homes. We have another 75 houses, flats and bungalows under construction at the moment and are actively discussing with the council how we can build more.”
