This Is Lancashire: Probe into death of brother of Blackburn Rovers starlet Probe into death of brother of Blackburn Rovers starlet

AN investigation has been launched into the death a Blackburn Rovers starlet’s brother.

David Carson joined Rovers at the start of the month on a one-year contract after a successful trial last season.

The player’s brother, Karl Carson died over the weekend.

He had been arrested after a fight broke out in a pub car park in Boldon Colliery, near South Shields, following an engagement party.

Police said they had detained Karl but he managed to get out of the police car as officers went to arrest a second man.

His body was later found at the bottom of cliffs. The air ambulance was called and Mr Carson was given treatment by officers until paramedics arrived, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Karl was believed to be a father-of-two, who played football for Wearside league outfit Boldon CA.

David, 18, was formerly on the books of Newcastle United and Sunderland. He has played as both a midfielder and attacker.

A Blackburn Rovers spokesperson said: "The club would like to offer its condolences to David and his family at this very sad time."

The matter has now been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

Northumbria Police Assistant Chief Constable Winton Keenen said: “This is an incredibly tragic incident and our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of Mr Carson.

“As a matter of course, the incident was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) and we’re co-operating fully with them.

“Specialist officers are providing support to the family and I’d like to reassure people that we’re working closely with the IPCC to establish the full details of this incident.”

very sorry for their loss.

I find it disrespectful to put so much hype in about who his brother was, it's not about him yet there are probably more lines mentioning the 'starlet' than the deceased. how is it even relevant who his brother is really?

It has no relevance, in the Newcastle papers it will not be mentioned.
This is a local paper though, so why report something that happened so far away?
The local story is about the Rovers player, not his brother.

Regardless of who he is or isn't, I think the link to a Rovers player is enough to make it news here.
Awful news, condolences to all affected.
