Funeral to be held for Bolton father who died in Turkey

This Is Lancashire: David Burke David Burke

THE funeral of a Bolton man, who died in mysterious circumstances while on holiday in Turkey, will be held on Monday.

David Burke, aged 50, died on the first day of his holiday in the coastal town of Marmaris.

A post-mortem examination in Bolton has revealed he suffered from multiple injuries, but his family are still not clear on how he died.

The service will be held at Overdale Crematorium at 11.30am and guests are being asked to wear bright clothes for the service, in honour of a man who has been described as “everyone’s friend”.

A procession will start at Mr Burke’s home in Bromwich Street, The Haulgh, before heading into Bolton town centre and then on to Overdale.

The father and grandfather, who grew up in Deane, was something of a mod in his time and his family and friends are hoping to hire some iconic scooters to display at the funeral in his honour.

Mr Burke’s 28-year-old daughter, who has asked not to be named, said she hopes the funeral will be a “celebration” of her father’s life.

She added: “He wasn’t a miserable or morbid person so he wouldn’t want other people to be like that.

“My dad was a really nice man and everyone seemed to be his friend, a lot of people thought very highly of him.”

She said the mystery surrounding the death of her father has made it difficult to begin the grieving process and added that she first heard the tragic news on facebook.

She added: “That is not the way you want to find out something like that, we still don’t know what happened and I can’t rest properly until we get to the bottom of it. We have heard a lot of different stories but will have to wait for the inquest to find out what actually happened.”

An inquest into Mr Burke’s death has been opened and immediately adjourned, with a pre-inquest review set to take place at Bolton Coroner’s Court on August 29.
